readers’ lives as well.

because: “Initially I liked it because of the Velvet
Underground song “Stephanie Says,” which features a character called Alaska who
is “between worlds.” But then I looked up what the word actually means, “that
which the sea breaks against,” which struck me as very beautiful and relevant
to Alaska’s experience.”
